I like them because I can shoot at peace and not be jostling with 40 selfie-takers at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be adding to this list as time goes on &#8211; there&#8217;s just so many places for photography in San Diego, it&#8217;s hard to keep up.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, I&#8217;ve written a longer article about the location. But there&#8217;s a lot more to see if you head there at low tide to check out the tide pools.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen colorful anemones, small crabs, red starfish, a variety of mussels and clams. It&#8217;s incredible how much you see once you really start looking! This one is huge with well designed areas for each kind of wildlife and the zoo is known for high standards of animal care and conservation.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s one of the most famous and well respected zoos in the world.<\/p>\n<h3>Chicano Park<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sidecarphoto.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/murals-in-san-diego-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Chicano Park Photography\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/murals-in-san-diego-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/murals-in-san-diego-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/murals-in-san-diego-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/murals-in-san-diego.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, a taste of something different in San Diego. Chicano park is a small park with incredible murals from renowned Latin-American artists. It&#8217;s a national historic landmark that few know about in San Diego and worth visiting. You can read more about the <a href=\"http:\/\/remezcla.com\/lists\/culture\/here-are-the-stories-behind-10-murals-in-san-diegos-chicano-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stories behind the murals here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chicano Park probably stands out as one of the more unusual places to take pictures in San Diego, one that tourists don&#8217;t usually bother to check out. It&#8217;s great for night shots with the lighting and rides.<\/p>\n<p>Best part, you can visit without paying anything. You do need to pay to take the rides, but not to enter the space and walk around.<\/p>\n<h3>Old Town San Diego<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sidecarphoto.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/old-town-san-diego-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Old Town San Diego\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/old-town-san-diego-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/old-town-san-diego-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/old-town-san-diego-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/old-town-san-diego.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I first visited Old Town, I thought it was an amusement park like Knott&#8217;s Berry farm or something. But actually there&#8217;s a lot of history to the place that surprised me!<\/p>\n<p>San Diego&#8217;s old town was actually the first mission in California and is the birthplace of California. Today it&#8217;s considered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.org\/articles\/old-town\/old-town-san-diego.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">historic park<\/a> and while it&#8217;s a bit cheesy (which is why I thought it was an amusement park), it&#8217;s still enjoyable to shoot.<\/p>\n<h3>Cabrillo National Monument<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-10774\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sidecarphoto.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cabrillo-national-monument-lighthouse-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"Cabrillo National Monument Lighthouse\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cabrillo-national-monument-lighthouse-800x450.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cabrillo-national-monument-lighthouse-360x203.jpg 360w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cabrillo-national-monument-lighthouse-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sidecarphoto.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/cabrillo-national-monument-lighthouse.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a beautiful spot with an iconic lighthouse that is now a small museum. It was last lit in 1891 and is no longer functional.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a great tidepool spot called the Cabrillo Sea Cave but double check to ensure the tides are appropriate and that it&#8217;s safe to visit.<\/p>\n<h2>Final Words<\/h2>\n<p>Well, I could certainly go on as there&#8217;s no end of cool places to take pictures in San Diego.
